有一天，一位愚昧而頑固的父親與一百多位兒子們吵了起來，父親對這一百多位兒子們說，“雖然你們都已經長大成年了，雖然你們都已經各自成家立業了，雖然你們都已經各自有許多的孩子了，但是我絕不允許你們搬出去住，那是分裂家庭的行為，不是嗎？”A兒子不同意地說，“我們每一個人都有‘自主選擇與獨立自主的權利’，你為什麼一定要剝奪我們每一個人這樣的權利呢？你不知道‘剝奪人的自主選擇與獨立自主權利’就是‘撒但’的行為嗎？”
B兒子對父親說，“你聽過‘All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that they are among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.’(The United States Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776)了嗎？”
C兒子對父親說，“你聽過‘Having undertaken, for the Glory of God and advancement of the Christian Faith …, a Voyage to plant the First Colony in the Northern Parts of Virginia, do by these presents solemnly and mutually in the presence of God and one of another, Covenant and Combine ourselves together into a Civil Body Politic, for our better ordering and preservation and furtherance of the ends aforesaid; and by virtue hereof to enact, constitute and frame such just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions and Offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the general good of the Colony, unto which we promise all due submission and obedience.’(The Mayflower Compact, November 11, 1620)了嗎？”
