1981年8月16日，柏楊在美國紐約華府孔子大廈演講，柏楊說，“記得一個故事，一個人問一位得道的高僧--佛教認為人是有輪回轉生的，說：‘我現在 的生命既是上輩子的轉生，我能不能知道我上輩子是個什麼樣的人？既是下輩子又要轉生。能不能告訴我下輩子又會轉生什麼樣的人？’。這位得道高僧告訴他四句話：‘欲知前世因，今生受者是；欲知後世果，今生做者是。’。假定你這輩子過的是很快樂的生活，你前輩子一 定是個正直寬厚的人。假定你這輩子有無窮的災難，這說明你上輩子一定做了惡事。這個故 事給我們很大的啟示。在座的先生小姐，如果是佛教徒的話，一定很容易接受，如果不是佛 教徒的話，當然不認為有前生後世，但請你在哲理上觀察這段答問。我的意思是，這故事使我們連想到中國文化。在座各位，不管是哪一個國籍的人。大多 數都有中國血統，這個血統不是任何方法可以改變的。不高興是如此，高興也是如此。我們 所指的中國人是廣義的。並不是指某一個特定地區，而只指血統。”螢火蟲不同意地說，“經上說，‘Do not put YOUR trust in nobles, Nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs. His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; In that day his thoughts do perish.’(Ps 146:3-4)與‘For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.’(Ecc 9:5-6)，你怎麼會引述‘輪回轉生’的謊話概念呢？”
“主耶穌督說，‘But YOU, do not YOU be called Rabbi, for one is YOUR teacher, whereas all YOU are brothers. Moreover, do not call anyone YOUR father on earth, for one is YOUR Father, the heavenly One. Neither be called leaders, for YOUR Leader is one, the Christ. But the greatest one among YOU must be YOUR minister. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.’(Mt 23:8-12)，你不知道你的父是誰嗎？你認為你是‘中國人’(妄尊自大的稱號)嗎？”
柏楊又說，“中國人近兩百年來，一直有個盼望，盼望我們的國家強大。盼望我們的民族成為世界上 最優秀的民族。但是，多少年以來，我們一直衰弱，我們一直受到外人的歧視，原因在什麼 地方？當然我們自己要負責任。但是，從文化上追尋的話，就會想到剛才所說的那個故事， 為什麼我們到今天，國家還不強大？人民還受這麼多災難？從無權無勢的小民，到有權有勢 的權貴，大家方向都是一樣的，都有相同的深切盼望，也有相同的深切沮喪。”
螢火蟲不同意地說，“主耶穌基督說，‘You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. The second, like it, is this, You must love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets.’(Mt 22:37-40)，你把‘國家強大’的價值放在‘Jehovah's spirit and Jesus' love’(Mt 6:10; Mt 22:36-40; Exo 20:2-17; Deu 5:6-21)信仰之上，那麼你如何能理解‘Individual dignity, integrity, faith, hope, love, justice, truth, morality, freedom, liberty, natural rights, joy, happiness and peace’與‘Self-respect, Self-dignity, Self-control, Self-government, Self-responsibility, Self-defense, Self-protection, Self-directed morals, Self-enforced orientation’等理念？那麼你如何能阻止‘國家強大’的謊言踐踏‘Individual dignity, integrity, hope, freedom, liberty, natural rights, happiness and peace’？那麼你如何能不被‘國家強大’的謊言所吞食呢？”
柏楊又說，“中華民族是世界上最偉大的民族之一，當然，我們在感情上也不得不這樣認為，否則就 難以活下去了。但世界上還有另一個偉大的民族，就是盎格魯撤克遜。這個民族為世界文明 建立了鋼架，像他們的議會製度、選舉製度，和司法獨立、司法陪審製度等等，為人類社 會，建立了一個良好結構，這是它對文明所做出的最大貢獻，也是西方社會能夠在政治上走 向合理公平的原因之一。無論如何，再浪費的選舉，總比殺人如山、血流成河要好。對於西 方一些好的東西，我們必須有接受的勇氣。有人說西方的選舉不是選舉人才，是在選舉錢， 而這種錢不是一般人所可以負擔得起的，即使這樣，浪費金錢，也比浪費人頭要好。”
螢火蟲不同意地說，“經上說，‘Therefore, as we have such a hope, we are using great freeness of speech, and not doing as when Moses would put a veil upon his face, that the sons of Israel might not gaze intently at the end of that which was to be done away with. But their mental powers were dulled. For to this present day the same veil remains unlifted at the reading of the old covenant, because it is done away with by means of Christ. In fact, down till today whenever Moses is read, a veil lies upon their hearts. But when there is a turning to Jehovah, the veil is taken away. Now Jehovah is the Spirit; and where the spirit of Jehovah is, there is freedom. And all of us, while we with unveiled faces reflect like mirrors the glory of Jehovah, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, exactly as done by Jehovah [the] Spirit.’(2 cor 3:12-18)，你把拒絕‘Jehovah's spirit and Jesus' love’信仰的‘蛆群’(指由漢人所定義的‘中華民族’偽概念)與接受‘Jehovah's spirit and Jesus' love’信仰的‘Human beings’(指Anglo-Saxon people)相等看待，那麼你不就是否定了你的《醜陋的中國人》的觀點？”
2005年07月22日，柏楊接受CCTV說，“人是月是故鄉明。還是看一看，也不知道這一輩子還能不能看。我85歲了，如果閻王爺要問我，你能想活多少歲？。我就是沒有臉應對。我說我要活到中國的和平統一，這個話確實。但是我盼望就是這樣。…我們談不到衣錦還鄉，我們只談到說是平安還鄉，回到家子孫看看，那我就心滿意足了。我們還要什麽？…大陸兩個女兒，臺北有兩個男孩子，澳大利亞有一個女兒。…除非中國強我才能開心。你說說我現在我的孩子可以進出自由，一個孩子，兩個孩子。…我覺得這個大家來往，我現在講，我要回家了。我要回家了，我可不是回，現在回家只有回到這個家。我說回家了，我回河南，那兒才美啊。”；2006年12月柏楊曾對中國現代文學館前副館長說，“我的這個決定經過深思熟慮，我的根在大陸，所以，我願意回歸大陸。…等我病好了還想回大陸，回去居住和生活。”
螢火蟲不同意地說，“主耶穌基督說，‘Do not let YOUR hearts be troubled. Exercise faith in God, exercise faith also in me. In the house of my Father there are many abodes. Otherwise, I would have told YOU, because I am going my way to prepare a place for YOU. Also, if I go my way and prepare a place for YOU, I am coming again and will receive YOU home to myself, that where I am YOU also may be. And where I am going YOU know the way.’(John 14:1-4)與‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’(John 14:6)，你不願意住在主耶穌基督為你所安排的住處，而卻渴望要爬回你所說的醬缸(本質為大糞坑)裡住嗎？”
