在中華文化的蛇坑裡，胡適蛇對一群蛇發表了《容忍與自由》演說，“…我自己總覺得，這個國家，這個社會，這個世界，絕大多數人是信神的，居然能有這雅量，能容忍我的無神論，能容忍我這個不信神也不信靈魂不滅的人，能容忍我在國內和國外自由發表我的無神論的思想，從沒有人因此用石頭擲我，把我關在監獄裏，或把我捆在柴堆上用火燒死。我在這個世界裏居然享受了四十多年的容忍與自由。我覺得這個國家，這個社會，這個世界對我的容忍度量是可愛的，是可以感激的。所以我自己總覺得我應該用容忍的態度來報答社會對我的容忍。所以我自己不信神，但我能誠心的諒解一切信神的人，也能誠心的容忍並且敬重-切信仰有神的宗教。我要用容忍的態度來報答社會對我的容忍，因為我年紀越大，我越覺得容忍的重要意義。若社會沒有這點容忍的氣度，我決不能享受四十多年大膽懷疑的自由，公開主張無神論的自由。…” 天空中的飛鳥說，“《Holy Bible》說， ‘Put on the complete suit of armor from God that YOU may be able to stand firm against the machinations of the Devil.’(Eph 6:11)，這無神論者已被蛇化了，這無神論者無法接受‘Christian civilization’(Jehovah's commandments and Jesus' gospel)，因此這無神論者無法認知‘Light’(Matt 24:14; Matt 28:18-20; John 8:12; John 1:4; 1 John 5:1; 1 John 2:8; Exo 19:18)與‘Truth’(John 14:6; John 8:32; John 6:35; Mat 24: 35; Gen 1:28; John 6:35-40; John 6:48–58)，因此這無神論者所說的‘Liberty’並不包含‘Individual spiritual virtues and values’(Individual consciousness, dignity, integrity, independence, confidence, love, justice, liberty, moral responsibility, free will, creativity, joy, happiness, peace and Individual rights)，否則這‘Liberty’如何能容忍這坑裡早已滿溢的‘Evil spirits’呢？”
