秦國攻陷楚國的郢都後，屈原在汨羅江旁悲憤地對螢火蟲說，“舉世皆濁我獨清，衆人皆醉我獨醒，是以見放。”；螢火蟲不同意地說，“你真的清醒嗎？”屈原又悲憤地對螢火蟲說，“吾聞之，新沐者必彈冠，新浴者必振衣；安能以身之察察，受物之汶汶者乎？寧赴湘流，葬於江魚之腹中。安能以皓皓之白，而蒙世俗之塵埃乎！”
螢火蟲出了意見，“《聖經》說，‘I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.’(Revelation 3:18)，你買了火煉的金子、潔淨的白衣與可以讓你睜開眼睛的藥了嗎？”
