You bought it at a heavy price, and you must glorify God with your body and spirit.

You bought it at a heavy price, and you must glorify God with your body and spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:20 declares: "For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

This verse speaks directly to the believer’s identity and responsibility. The “price” refers to the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, who “gave Himself a ransom for all” (1 Timothy 2:6) and “redeemed us… with the precious blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18–19). We no longer belong to ourselves. We are God’s possession, purchased at the cost of His Son’s life (Acts 20:28).

Therefore, glorifying God must involve every aspect of our being—body and spirit. Romans 12:1 exhorts believers to “present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”

Paul emphasizes in 1 Corinthians 3:16–17 that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and those who defile this temple dishonor God.

This command to glorify God is not optional. It’s the natural response of those who truly love Him. Jesus said in John 14:15, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”

Loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30) is the greatest commandment—and it leads us to a life of complete awe and obedience to God.

Only those who love God with all their heart and soul, keep Jesus’ commands, and do the will of the Father can truly understand and live out 1 Corinthians 6:20.

If a person can comprehend the profound meaning in the scripture of 1 Corinthians 6:20, then he can fully realize that our lives do not belong to us, and the essence of our lives is the Vessel to show the glory of God.

We must be in complete obedience to God in body, mind, and spirit, so that we can glorify our Redeemer and move towards true spiritual freedom.
