The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him.
Isaiah 11:2 declares: "The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”
This prophetic verse reveals the nature of the Messiah—Jesus Christ—and the fullness of the Holy Spirit that rested upon Him. Each attribute mentioned reflects divine perfection.
Jesus was filled with wisdom (Luke 2:40), discernment (John 2:24–25), power (Luke 4:14), and holy fear (Hebrews 5:7). These are not only prophetic fulfillments but spiritual realities that He embodied during His earthly ministry.
The New Testament affirms that Jesus operated in these spiritual dimensions. Colossians 2:3 says, “In Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
Jesus demonstrated divine counsel and might when Jesus calmed storms (Mark 4:39), cast out demons (Mark 1:34), and raised the dead (John 11:43–44). Jesus' reverence for the Father is shown in John 8:29: “I always do those things that please Him.”
The same Spirit that rested on Jesus is promised to believers. Romans 8:11 says, “The Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you.”
Yet, the key to receiving this wisdom, counsel, and understanding is not merely intellectual or ceremonial—it is deeply spiritual. Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” James 1:5 promises wisdom to those who ask in faith.
Only those who love God with all their heart and soul, keep the commandments of Jesus, and do the will of the Father can truly abide in the spirit of Isaiah 11:2. As 1 John 2:27 teaches, the anointing of the Holy Spirit teaches all things to those who remain in Him.
Isaiah 11:2 is both a revelation of Christ’s divine identity and an invitation for believers to live by the Spirit, reflecting the wisdom, might, and holiness of Jesus in a world that desperately needs the light of God.
