Hugo: 不要再讓夏俊峰變成竇娥了!

Hugo: 巴別塔下的四位大淫婦
在巴別塔(The Tower of Babel)下,有四位來自大巴比倫(Rev 18:2,4)的大淫婦(Rev 18: 23)正在爭論誰為大(Mt 10:43-45) ,奧古斯丁(Aurelius Augustinus)說,“你看,我將《Bible》裝進柏拉圖思想(Πλάτων)的盒子裡了,我最大,人類應該崇拜(Worship)我,不是嗎?”;多瑪斯(Thomas Aquinas)說,“你看,我將《Bible》裝進亞里士多德(Αριστοτέλης)思想的盒子裡了,我最大,人類應該崇拜(Worship)我,不是嗎?”

Hugo: 陀螺式的改良派與革命派思想
在《零八憲章》的廣告牌下,嚴復大紅龍對孫文大紅龍說,“我國民知識尚卑,即有所改革、害之除於甲,將見於乙,泯之於丙者,將發之於丁。必須先從教育著手,方能逐漸更新。”;孫文大紅龍說,“俟河之清,人壽幾何?君為思想家,吾乃執行家也。”
於是,孫文大紅龍宣讀了《敬告同鄉、論革命與保皇之分野書》,“同鄉列公足下:向者公等以為革命保皇二事,名異而實同,謂保皇者不過借名以行革命,此實誤也。天下事名不正則言不順,言不順則事不成。夫常人置產立業,其約章契券,猶不能假他人之名,況以康、梁之智,而謀軍國大事,民族前途,豈有故為名實不符,而犯先聖之遺訓者乎?其創立保皇會者,所以報知己也。夫康、梁一以進士,一以舉人,而蒙清載湉特達之知,非常之寵,千古君臣知遇之隆,未有若此者也。百日維新,言聽計從,事雖不成,而康、梁從此大名已震動天下。此誰為之,孰令致之,非光緒之恩,曷克臻此?今二子之逋逃外國而倡保皇會也,其感恩圖報之未逞,豈尚有他哉?若果有如公等所信,實則革命,則康、梁者,尚得齒於人類乎?直禽獸不若也!故保皇無毫釐之假借,可無疑義矣。如其不信,則請讀康有為所著之《最近政見書》,此書乃康有為勸南北美洲華商不可行革命,不可談革命,不可思革命,只可死心踏地以圖保皇立憲,而延長滿洲人之國命,續長我漢人之身契。公等何不一察實情,而竟以己之心,度人之心;以己之欲,推人之欲;而誣妄康、梁一至於是耶?或曰:言借名保皇而行革命者,實明明出諸於梁啟超之口,是何謂誣?曰:然,然而不然也。梁之言果真真誠無偽耶?而何以梁之門人之有革命思想者,皆視梁為公敵為漢仇耶?梁為保皇會中之運動領袖,閱歷頗深,世情寢熟,目擊近日人心之趨向,風潮之急激,毅力不足,不覺為革命之氣所動盪,偶爾失其初心,背其宗旨。其在《新民業報》之忽言革命,忽言破壞,忽言愛同種之過於恩人光緒,忽言愛真理之過於其師康有為者,是猶乎病人之偶發囈語耳,非真有反清歸漢,去暗投明之實心也。何以知其然哉?夫康、梁同一鼻孔出氣者也。康既刻心臣服以表白其保皇之非偽,而梁未與之決絕,未與之分離,則所言革命,焉得有真乎?夫革命與保皇,理不相容,勢不兩立,今梁以一人而持二說,首鼠兩端,其所言革命屬真,則保皇之說必偽;而其所言保皇屬真,則革命之說亦偽。又如本埠保皇報之副主筆陳某者,康趨亦趨,康步亦步,既當保皇報主筆,而又口談革命,身入洪門,其混亂是非,顛倒黑白如此,無怪公等向以之為耳目者混革命保皇而為一也,此不可不辨也。今幸有一據,可以證明彼雖口談革命,身入洪門,而實為保皇之中堅,漢族之奸細。彼口談革命者,欲籠絡革命志士也;彼身入洪門者,欲利用洪門之人也。自弟有革命演說之後,彼之詐偽,已無地可藏,圖窮而匕首見矣。若彼果真有革命之心,必聲應氣求,兩心相印,何致有攻擊不留餘地?始則於報上肆情誣謗,竭力訾毀,竟敢不顧報律,傷及名譽,若訟之公堂,彼必難逃國法。繼則大露其滿奴之本來面目,演說保皇立憲之旨,大張滿人之毒燄,而痛駡漢人之無資格,不當享有民權。夫滿洲以東北一遊牧之野番賤種,亦可享有皇帝之權;吾漢人以四千年文明之種族,則民權尚不能享,此又何說?其尊外族抑同種之心,有如此其甚者,可見彼輩所言保皇,為真保皇;所言革命,為假革命,已彰明較著矣。由此觀之,革命保皇二事,決分兩途,如黑白之不能混淆,如東西之不能易位。革命者志在摧滿而興漢,保皇者志在扶滿而臣清,事理相反,背道而馳,互相衝突,互相水火,非一日矣。如弟與任公私交雖密,一談政事,則儼然敵國,然各有志,不能相強。總之,劃清界線,不使混淆,吾人革命不說保皇,彼輩保皇何必偏稱革命?誠能如康有為之率直,明來反對,雖失身於異族,不愧為男子也。古今來忘本性,昧天良,去同族而事異種,舍忠義而為漢奸者,不可勝計,非獨康、梁已也。滿漢之間,忠奸之判,公等天良未昧,取捨從違,必能審定。如果以客帝為可保,其為萬劫不復之奴隸,則亦已矣。如冰山之難恃,滿漢之不容,二百六十年亡國之可恥,四萬萬漢族之可興,則宜大倡革命,毋惑保皇,庶漢族其有豸乎?書不盡意,餘詳演說筆記中,容出版當另行呈政。此致,即候大安不既。弟孫逸仙頓。”
接著,孫文大紅龍又宣讀了《駁保皇報書》,“陰曆十二月二十九日,檀埠保皇報刊有‘敬告保皇會同志書’。此書出於該報主筆陳儀侃之手,而托他人之名,欲間接而駁仆日前之書也。書中所載,語無倫次,義相矛盾,可知作者于論理學(LOGIC),一無所知,於政治學(POLITICAL SCIEnCE)更懵然罔覺,所言事實,多有不符,牽強附會,本不欲推求詳辯;然其似是而非之理,最易惑人,故逐條駁之,以塞毒燄,而辟謬論。彼開口便曰愛國,試問其所愛之國為大清國乎?抑中華國乎?若所愛之國為大清國,則不當有「今則驅除異族,謂之光復」之一語,自其口出。若彼所愛之國為中華國,則不當以保皇為愛國之政策;蓋保異種而奴中華,非愛國也,實害國也。彼又曰中國爪分,在於旦夕,外人窺伺,乘間即發,各國指認之地,照會政府,不得讓與別人云云。曾亦知爪分之原因乎?政府無振作也,人民不發奮也。政府若有振作,則強橫如俄羅斯,殘異如土耳其,外人不敢側目也。人民若能發奮,則微小如巴拿馬,激烈如蘇威亞,列強向之承認也。蓋今日國際,惟有努力強權,不講道德仁義也。滿清政府,今日已矣,要害之區盡失,發詳之地已亡,浸而日削百里,月失數城,終歸於盡而已。尚有一線生機之可望者,惟人民之發奮耳。若人心日醒,發奮為雄,大舉革命,一起而倒此殘腐將死之滿清政府,則列國方欲敬我之不暇,尚何有窺伺爪分之事哉!既識引管子之作內政以寄軍令,何以偏阻漢人行革命而複祖邦?今日之作內政,從何下手?必先驅除客帝,復我政權,始能免其今日簽一約割山東,明日押一款賣兩廣也。彼滿清政府不特簽押約款,以割我賣我也;且為外人平靖地方,然後送之也,廣東之新安縣廣州灣已然之事也,倘無滿清之政府為之助桀為虐,吾民猶得便宜行事,可以拚一死殉吾之桑梓。彼外國知吾民之不易與,不能垂手而得吾尺寸之地,則彼雖食欲無厭,猶有戒心也。今有滿清政府為之鷹犬,則彼外國者欲取我土地,有予取予拱之便矣,故欲免爪分,非先倒滿清政府,別無挽救之法也。乃彼書生之見,畏葸存心,不識時勢,不達事體,動軋恐逢人之怒.不知我愈窺伺,我能奮發,則彼反敬畏,豈有逢人之怒之理哉?如其不信,吾請陳儀侃日日向外人叩頭,日日向外人乞情,試能止外人之不照會清朝以索地否?清國帝後今日日媚外人矣,日日宴會公使及其夫人矣,媚外人之中,又與俄為最親慝矣;然而據其發詳之地者則俄也。不逢人之怒,莫過於今日之清帝後,以儀侃之見解,則必能免於爪分矣,信乎否乎?既知中華亡國二百六十年矣,不圖恢復,猶竭力以阻人之言恢復言革命,是誠何心哉?彼固甘心以殉清朝之節,清亡與亡,清奴與奴,洵大清之忠臣義士矣,其如漢族何?而猶囂囂然執「毋寧」二字以罵人為白奴,是真強辭奪理矣。彼曰:革命之說,原本大易。又曰:中國固始終不能免於革命。其言是矣。乃何以又曰:中國今民智為萌芽時代。夫大易者,中國最古之書,孔子聲辭,稱湯武革命,順乎天也,豈由湯武至於今,經二十餘朝之革命,而猶得謂之萌芽時代耶?其所引法國三大革命曰:經盧梭、達爾文、福樓特爾諸大哲學家提倡建設,而不知達爾文乃英人,當法國第一次革命之時,彼尚未出世;當第二次革命之時,彼尚未成學;當第三次革命之時,彼尚未聞名於世。其第一部著作,名曰:《生物本源》,出版在一千八百五十九年,當時英國博物家尚多非其說之不經。迨十餘年後,始見重於英之學者;又十餘年後,始見稱於世人。今該主筆大書特書曰:達爾文有與提倡法國三次革命之功。彼所指之達爾文,或是達爾文之前身乎?想該主筆必精通三世書矣,否則何以知之耶?又雲:法國死於革命者一千二百萬人。該主筆嘗識吾人之革命,不起于京師,想亦熟聞法國之三大革命皆於巴黎矣,而巴黎之外,無死於革命者。試問巴黎當時人口幾何?作者知之乎?且巴黎雖經三次之革命,而未遇揚州十日之事,無廣州洗城之慘。就使巴黎全城之民皆死於革命,三次計之,亦不足此數,毋乃該主筆以一人轉輪數十次計之乎?若此則非吾所敢知。彼既曰:革命之結果,為民主政體也,胡又曰:有建設者謂之有意識之破壞,無建設者謂之無意識之破壞,彼等是否建設,吾不敢知云云。夫革命破壞也,民主政體者建設也,既明明於革命之先,定為民主政體矣。非意識為何?曰政曰體,非建設為何?該主筆以一手之筆,一時之言,其矛盾有如是,斯亦奇矣。彼又嘗謂中國人無自由民權之性質,仆曾力斥其謬,引中國鄉族之自治,如自行斷訟,自行保衛,自行教育,自行修理道路等事,雖不及今日西歐之美,可足證中國人稟有民權之性質也。又中國人民向來不受政府之干涉,來往自如,出入不問,婚姻生死,不報於官,戶口門牌,鮮注於冊,甚至兩鄰械鬥,為所欲為,此本於自由之性質也。彼則反唇相稽曰:此種野蠻之自由,非文明之自由也。此又何待彼言?仆既雲性質矣,夫天生自然謂之性,純樸不文謂之質;有野蠻之自由,則便有自由之性質也,何得謂無?夫性質與事體異。發現於外謂之事體,稟賦於中謂之性質。中國民權自由之事體未及西國之有條不紊,界限軼然,然何得謂之無自由民權之性質乎?惟中國今日富於此野蠻之自由,則他日容易變為文明之自由。倘無此性質,何由而變?是猶琢玉必其石具有玉質,乃能琢之成玉器,若無其質,雖琢無成也。彼又曰:中國人富於服從權勢之性質,而非富於服從法律性之性質。試問無權勢可以行法律乎?今日檀島,若政府無權勢以拘禁處罰犯法之人,其法律尚成法律乎?夫法律者,治之體也;權勢者,治之用也,體用相因,不相判也。今該主筆強別服從法律與服從權勢而為二事,是可知彼於政治之學毫無所知也。彼又曰:立憲者過渡之時代也,共和者最後之結果也。此又可見彼不知立憲為何物,而牽強附會也,夫立憲者,西語曰:CONSTItUTION,乃一定不易之常經,非革命不能改也。過渡者,西語曰:TRANSITION,乃變更之謂也。此二名辭,皆從西文譯出,中國無此成語也。該主筆雖不知以為知,而妄曰CONSTItUTION 乃TRANSITION時代,何可笑也。推彼之意,必當先經立憲君主,而後可成立憲民主,乃合進化次序也。而不知天下之事,其為破天荒者則然耳,若世間已有其事,且行之已收大效者,則我可以取法而為後來居上也。試觀中國向未有火車,近日始興建,皆取最新之式者。若照彼之意,則中國今為火車萌芽之時代,當用英美數十年之舊物,然後漸漸更換新物,至最終之結果,乃可用今日之新式火車,方合進化之次序也。今彼以君主立憲為過渡之時代,以民主立憲為最終之結果,是要行二次之破壞,而始得至於民主之域也。與其行二次,何如行一次之為便耶?夫破壞者,非得已之事也,一次已嫌其多矣,又何必故意以行二次。夫今日專制之時代也,必先破壞此專制,乃得行君主或民主之立憲也。既有力以破壞之,則君主民主隨我所擇。如過渡焉,與其滯乎中流,何不一棹而登岸,為一勞永逸之計也。使該主筆若不知民主為最終之結果,其倡君主立憲猶可說也。乃彼既知為美政,而又認為最終之結果,胡為如此矯強支離多端相辯難也?得毋以此事雖善,誠為救中國之良劑,但其始不倡吾師,其終亦不成於吾手,天下上等之事,必不讓他人為之,故必竭力阻止,以致不成而後已,是重私心而忘公義也。彼又曰:會外人何以圖羊城謀惠州,而利用洪門之勢力?不知革命與洪門,志同道合,聲應氣求,合力舉義,責有應盡,非同利用,如彼等欲暗改洪門之宗旨,而令洪門之人,以助其保救大清皇帝也。又仆前書指以滿洲之野番,尚能享皇帝之權;而彼則曰:豈不見各國憲法云云。仆所指乃當今清國專制之皇權,而彼引各國憲法以答,真強為比例,擬於不倫矣。彼又曰:所謂保皇者自我保之,主權在我,非彼何我也,不得謂為滿奴云云,此真夢夢也。今光緒皇帝儼然在北京,日日召見臣工,日日宴會公使,有時游頤和園,有時看西洋戲,何嘗受彼之保,其言之離事實,何相遠之甚也。彼又曰:今則驅除異族,謂之光復舊物,不得謂之革命,此拾人之唾餘,知其一不知其二也。其書中最得力者,為托某氏之言曰:弟前十年故為彼會中人,今已改入保皇會矣云云。其是否屬實,姑毋容辯;但據其所述誓詞,則知彼非門外漢,亦升堂而索入於室也。不然,豈有下喬木而入幽谷者哉?不觀其他之入保皇會者乎?多以保皇為借名而誤入者也。該主筆又從而引申其說曰:蒙古與滿洲且不辨云云。蒙者蒙古也,滿者滿洲也,豈於蒙滿之外,更有此言也?可知其平日荒唐謬妄,強不知以為知,夜郎自大,目中無人,真不值識者一哂。仆非文士,本不欲與八股書生爭一日之長,興筆墨之戰;但以彼無根之學,以訛傳訛,惑世誣民,遺害非淺,故不得已而駁斥之。倘彼具有天良,當知慚愧,早日悔悟,毋再現其醜也。又其人存心刻忍,觀其所論蘇報之案,落井下石,大有幸災樂禍之心,毫無拯弱扶危之念,與保皇會友日前打電求救之意,亦大相反背,其手段之酷,心地之毒,門戶之見,胸度之狹,於此可見一般。今特揭而出之,以質諸世之公論者。”
孫文大紅龍宣讀完了這兩篇文後,牠舉起了“中華革命黨”的旗,並帶著一群蛇大呼口號,“驅逐韃虜,恢復中華,創立民國,平均地權,如有反悔,任眾處罰。”;牠們呼完口號後,東亞大陸的天空變得越來越黑暗了。

“如果沒有上述的理念,你如何能真誠地接受美國《五月花號公約》、《維吉尼亞權利法案》、《獨立宣言》等三大理念?如果不真誠地接受這三大理念,東亞大陸所有的改良派與革命派思想最後如何不變成空?最後如何不永恆回歸專制王朝的循環命運?最後如何不變成陀螺?”

於是,孫文大紅龍宣讀了《敬告同鄉、論革命與保皇之分野書》,“同鄉列公足下:向者公等以為革命保皇二事,名異而實同,謂保皇者不過借名以行革命,此實誤也。天下事名不正則言不順,言不順則事不成。夫常人置產立業,其約章契券,猶不能假他人之名,況以康、梁之智,而謀軍國大事,民族前途,豈有故為名實不符,而犯先聖之遺訓者乎?其創立保皇會者,所以報知己也。夫康、梁一以進士,一以舉人,而蒙清載湉特達之知,非常之寵,千古君臣知遇之隆,未有若此者也。百日維新,言聽計從,事雖不成,而康、梁從此大名已震動天下。此誰為之,孰令致之,非光緒之恩,曷克臻此?今二子之逋逃外國而倡保皇會也,其感恩圖報之未逞,豈尚有他哉?若果有如公等所信,實則革命,則康、梁者,尚得齒於人類乎?直禽獸不若也!故保皇無毫釐之假借,可無疑義矣。如其不信,則請讀康有為所著之《最近政見書》,此書乃康有為勸南北美洲華商不可行革命,不可談革命,不可思革命,只可死心踏地以圖保皇立憲,而延長滿洲人之國命,續長我漢人之身契。公等何不一察實情,而竟以己之心,度人之心;以己之欲,推人之欲;而誣妄康、梁一至於是耶?或曰:言借名保皇而行革命者,實明明出諸於梁啟超之口,是何謂誣?曰:然,然而不然也。梁之言果真真誠無偽耶?而何以梁之門人之有革命思想者,皆視梁為公敵為漢仇耶?梁為保皇會中之運動領袖,閱歷頗深,世情寢熟,目擊近日人心之趨向,風潮之急激,毅力不足,不覺為革命之氣所動盪,偶爾失其初心,背其宗旨。其在《新民業報》之忽言革命,忽言破壞,忽言愛同種之過於恩人光緒,忽言愛真理之過於其師康有為者,是猶乎病人之偶發囈語耳,非真有反清歸漢,去暗投明之實心也。何以知其然哉?夫康、梁同一鼻孔出氣者也。康既刻心臣服以表白其保皇之非偽,而梁未與之決絕,未與之分離,則所言革命,焉得有真乎?夫革命與保皇,理不相容,勢不兩立,今梁以一人而持二說,首鼠兩端,其所言革命屬真,則保皇之說必偽;而其所言保皇屬真,則革命之說亦偽。又如本埠保皇報之副主筆陳某者,康趨亦趨,康步亦步,既當保皇報主筆,而又口談革命,身入洪門,其混亂是非,顛倒黑白如此,無怪公等向以之為耳目者混革命保皇而為一也,此不可不辨也。今幸有一據,可以證明彼雖口談革命,身入洪門,而實為保皇之中堅,漢族之奸細。彼口談革命者,欲籠絡革命志士也;彼身入洪門者,欲利用洪門之人也。自弟有革命演說之後,彼之詐偽,已無地可藏,圖窮而匕首見矣。若彼果真有革命之心,必聲應氣求,兩心相印,何致有攻擊不留餘地?始則於報上肆情誣謗,竭力訾毀,竟敢不顧報律,傷及名譽,若訟之公堂,彼必難逃國法。繼則大露其滿奴之本來面目,演說保皇立憲之旨,大張滿人之毒燄,而痛駡漢人之無資格,不當享有民權。夫滿洲以東北一遊牧之野番賤種,亦可享有皇帝之權;吾漢人以四千年文明之種族,則民權尚不能享,此又何說?其尊外族抑同種之心,有如此其甚者,可見彼輩所言保皇,為真保皇;所言革命,為假革命,已彰明較著矣。由此觀之,革命保皇二事,決分兩途,如黑白之不能混淆,如東西之不能易位。革命者志在摧滿而興漢,保皇者志在扶滿而臣清,事理相反,背道而馳,互相衝突,互相水火,非一日矣。如弟與任公私交雖密,一談政事,則儼然敵國,然各有志,不能相強。總之,劃清界線,不使混淆,吾人革命不說保皇,彼輩保皇何必偏稱革命?誠能如康有為之率直,明來反對,雖失身於異族,不愧為男子也。古今來忘本性,昧天良,去同族而事異種,舍忠義而為漢奸者,不可勝計,非獨康、梁已也。滿漢之間,忠奸之判,公等天良未昧,取捨從違,必能審定。如果以客帝為可保,其為萬劫不復之奴隸,則亦已矣。如冰山之難恃,滿漢之不容,二百六十年亡國之可恥,四萬萬漢族之可興,則宜大倡革命,毋惑保皇,庶漢族其有豸乎?書不盡意,餘詳演說筆記中,容出版當另行呈政。此致,即候大安不既。弟孫逸仙頓。”
接著,孫文大紅龍又宣讀了《駁保皇報書》,“陰曆十二月二十九日,檀埠保皇報刊有‘敬告保皇會同志書’。此書出於該報主筆陳儀侃之手,而托他人之名,欲間接而駁仆日前之書也。書中所載,語無倫次,義相矛盾,可知作者于論理學(LOGIC),一無所知,於政治學(POLITICAL SCIEnCE)更懵然罔覺,所言事實,多有不符,牽強附會,本不欲推求詳辯;然其似是而非之理,最易惑人,故逐條駁之,以塞毒燄,而辟謬論。彼開口便曰愛國,試問其所愛之國為大清國乎?抑中華國乎?若所愛之國為大清國,則不當有「今則驅除異族,謂之光復」之一語,自其口出。若彼所愛之國為中華國,則不當以保皇為愛國之政策;蓋保異種而奴中華,非愛國也,實害國也。彼又曰中國爪分,在於旦夕,外人窺伺,乘間即發,各國指認之地,照會政府,不得讓與別人云云。曾亦知爪分之原因乎?政府無振作也,人民不發奮也。政府若有振作,則強橫如俄羅斯,殘異如土耳其,外人不敢側目也。人民若能發奮,則微小如巴拿馬,激烈如蘇威亞,列強向之承認也。蓋今日國際,惟有努力強權,不講道德仁義也。滿清政府,今日已矣,要害之區盡失,發詳之地已亡,浸而日削百里,月失數城,終歸於盡而已。尚有一線生機之可望者,惟人民之發奮耳。若人心日醒,發奮為雄,大舉革命,一起而倒此殘腐將死之滿清政府,則列國方欲敬我之不暇,尚何有窺伺爪分之事哉!既識引管子之作內政以寄軍令,何以偏阻漢人行革命而複祖邦?今日之作內政,從何下手?必先驅除客帝,復我政權,始能免其今日簽一約割山東,明日押一款賣兩廣也。彼滿清政府不特簽押約款,以割我賣我也;且為外人平靖地方,然後送之也,廣東之新安縣廣州灣已然之事也,倘無滿清之政府為之助桀為虐,吾民猶得便宜行事,可以拚一死殉吾之桑梓。彼外國知吾民之不易與,不能垂手而得吾尺寸之地,則彼雖食欲無厭,猶有戒心也。今有滿清政府為之鷹犬,則彼外國者欲取我土地,有予取予拱之便矣,故欲免爪分,非先倒滿清政府,別無挽救之法也。乃彼書生之見,畏葸存心,不識時勢,不達事體,動軋恐逢人之怒.不知我愈窺伺,我能奮發,則彼反敬畏,豈有逢人之怒之理哉?如其不信,吾請陳儀侃日日向外人叩頭,日日向外人乞情,試能止外人之不照會清朝以索地否?清國帝後今日日媚外人矣,日日宴會公使及其夫人矣,媚外人之中,又與俄為最親慝矣;然而據其發詳之地者則俄也。不逢人之怒,莫過於今日之清帝後,以儀侃之見解,則必能免於爪分矣,信乎否乎?既知中華亡國二百六十年矣,不圖恢復,猶竭力以阻人之言恢復言革命,是誠何心哉?彼固甘心以殉清朝之節,清亡與亡,清奴與奴,洵大清之忠臣義士矣,其如漢族何?而猶囂囂然執「毋寧」二字以罵人為白奴,是真強辭奪理矣。彼曰:革命之說,原本大易。又曰:中國固始終不能免於革命。其言是矣。乃何以又曰:中國今民智為萌芽時代。夫大易者,中國最古之書,孔子聲辭,稱湯武革命,順乎天也,豈由湯武至於今,經二十餘朝之革命,而猶得謂之萌芽時代耶?其所引法國三大革命曰:經盧梭、達爾文、福樓特爾諸大哲學家提倡建設,而不知達爾文乃英人,當法國第一次革命之時,彼尚未出世;當第二次革命之時,彼尚未成學;當第三次革命之時,彼尚未聞名於世。其第一部著作,名曰:《生物本源》,出版在一千八百五十九年,當時英國博物家尚多非其說之不經。迨十餘年後,始見重於英之學者;又十餘年後,始見稱於世人。今該主筆大書特書曰:達爾文有與提倡法國三次革命之功。彼所指之達爾文,或是達爾文之前身乎?想該主筆必精通三世書矣,否則何以知之耶?又雲:法國死於革命者一千二百萬人。該主筆嘗識吾人之革命,不起于京師,想亦熟聞法國之三大革命皆於巴黎矣,而巴黎之外,無死於革命者。試問巴黎當時人口幾何?作者知之乎?且巴黎雖經三次之革命,而未遇揚州十日之事,無廣州洗城之慘。就使巴黎全城之民皆死於革命,三次計之,亦不足此數,毋乃該主筆以一人轉輪數十次計之乎?若此則非吾所敢知。彼既曰:革命之結果,為民主政體也,胡又曰:有建設者謂之有意識之破壞,無建設者謂之無意識之破壞,彼等是否建設,吾不敢知云云。夫革命破壞也,民主政體者建設也,既明明於革命之先,定為民主政體矣。非意識為何?曰政曰體,非建設為何?該主筆以一手之筆,一時之言,其矛盾有如是,斯亦奇矣。彼又嘗謂中國人無自由民權之性質,仆曾力斥其謬,引中國鄉族之自治,如自行斷訟,自行保衛,自行教育,自行修理道路等事,雖不及今日西歐之美,可足證中國人稟有民權之性質也。又中國人民向來不受政府之干涉,來往自如,出入不問,婚姻生死,不報於官,戶口門牌,鮮注於冊,甚至兩鄰械鬥,為所欲為,此本於自由之性質也。彼則反唇相稽曰:此種野蠻之自由,非文明之自由也。此又何待彼言?仆既雲性質矣,夫天生自然謂之性,純樸不文謂之質;有野蠻之自由,則便有自由之性質也,何得謂無?夫性質與事體異。發現於外謂之事體,稟賦於中謂之性質。中國民權自由之事體未及西國之有條不紊,界限軼然,然何得謂之無自由民權之性質乎?惟中國今日富於此野蠻之自由,則他日容易變為文明之自由。倘無此性質,何由而變?是猶琢玉必其石具有玉質,乃能琢之成玉器,若無其質,雖琢無成也。彼又曰:中國人富於服從權勢之性質,而非富於服從法律性之性質。試問無權勢可以行法律乎?今日檀島,若政府無權勢以拘禁處罰犯法之人,其法律尚成法律乎?夫法律者,治之體也;權勢者,治之用也,體用相因,不相判也。今該主筆強別服從法律與服從權勢而為二事,是可知彼於政治之學毫無所知也。彼又曰:立憲者過渡之時代也,共和者最後之結果也。此又可見彼不知立憲為何物,而牽強附會也,夫立憲者,西語曰:CONSTItUTION,乃一定不易之常經,非革命不能改也。過渡者,西語曰:TRANSITION,乃變更之謂也。此二名辭,皆從西文譯出,中國無此成語也。該主筆雖不知以為知,而妄曰CONSTItUTION 乃TRANSITION時代,何可笑也。推彼之意,必當先經立憲君主,而後可成立憲民主,乃合進化次序也。而不知天下之事,其為破天荒者則然耳,若世間已有其事,且行之已收大效者,則我可以取法而為後來居上也。試觀中國向未有火車,近日始興建,皆取最新之式者。若照彼之意,則中國今為火車萌芽之時代,當用英美數十年之舊物,然後漸漸更換新物,至最終之結果,乃可用今日之新式火車,方合進化之次序也。今彼以君主立憲為過渡之時代,以民主立憲為最終之結果,是要行二次之破壞,而始得至於民主之域也。與其行二次,何如行一次之為便耶?夫破壞者,非得已之事也,一次已嫌其多矣,又何必故意以行二次。夫今日專制之時代也,必先破壞此專制,乃得行君主或民主之立憲也。既有力以破壞之,則君主民主隨我所擇。如過渡焉,與其滯乎中流,何不一棹而登岸,為一勞永逸之計也。使該主筆若不知民主為最終之結果,其倡君主立憲猶可說也。乃彼既知為美政,而又認為最終之結果,胡為如此矯強支離多端相辯難也?得毋以此事雖善,誠為救中國之良劑,但其始不倡吾師,其終亦不成於吾手,天下上等之事,必不讓他人為之,故必竭力阻止,以致不成而後已,是重私心而忘公義也。彼又曰:會外人何以圖羊城謀惠州,而利用洪門之勢力?不知革命與洪門,志同道合,聲應氣求,合力舉義,責有應盡,非同利用,如彼等欲暗改洪門之宗旨,而令洪門之人,以助其保救大清皇帝也。又仆前書指以滿洲之野番,尚能享皇帝之權;而彼則曰:豈不見各國憲法云云。仆所指乃當今清國專制之皇權,而彼引各國憲法以答,真強為比例,擬於不倫矣。彼又曰:所謂保皇者自我保之,主權在我,非彼何我也,不得謂為滿奴云云,此真夢夢也。今光緒皇帝儼然在北京,日日召見臣工,日日宴會公使,有時游頤和園,有時看西洋戲,何嘗受彼之保,其言之離事實,何相遠之甚也。彼又曰:今則驅除異族,謂之光復舊物,不得謂之革命,此拾人之唾餘,知其一不知其二也。其書中最得力者,為托某氏之言曰:弟前十年故為彼會中人,今已改入保皇會矣云云。其是否屬實,姑毋容辯;但據其所述誓詞,則知彼非門外漢,亦升堂而索入於室也。不然,豈有下喬木而入幽谷者哉?不觀其他之入保皇會者乎?多以保皇為借名而誤入者也。該主筆又從而引申其說曰:蒙古與滿洲且不辨云云。蒙者蒙古也,滿者滿洲也,豈於蒙滿之外,更有此言也?可知其平日荒唐謬妄,強不知以為知,夜郎自大,目中無人,真不值識者一哂。仆非文士,本不欲與八股書生爭一日之長,興筆墨之戰;但以彼無根之學,以訛傳訛,惑世誣民,遺害非淺,故不得已而駁斥之。倘彼具有天良,當知慚愧,早日悔悟,毋再現其醜也。又其人存心刻忍,觀其所論蘇報之案,落井下石,大有幸災樂禍之心,毫無拯弱扶危之念,與保皇會友日前打電求救之意,亦大相反背,其手段之酷,心地之毒,門戶之見,胸度之狹,於此可見一般。今特揭而出之,以質諸世之公論者。”

溫大紅龍太監微笑地說,“啟秉皇上,我已安排好了《捉放曹》大戲;先捉幾個假的反對者(指喜歡跪地與叩頭請願的奴隸,即那些主張保皇改良路線的皇奴)判刑,接著派一群人搖旗吶喊與要求平反;然後我黨再假裝地開恩放人,如此不就可以騙騙外國人了?如此不就可以體現我黨從善如流與改善人權的形象了嗎?”
