Walking in the Light

Walking in the Light

In this end-time generation, the world is filled with various forms of darkness and evil. How precious and beautiful it would be if a person could truly walk in the light!

1. A Person Should Walk in the Light

1 John 1:7 says:

“If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of His Son Jesus cleanses us from all sin.”

From this verse, we understand that believers are called to walk in the light. This leads to an important question: What is this light?

2. God Is Light, and Jesus Is the Light

1 John 1:5 declares:

“God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.”

John 8:12 records the words of Jesus Christ:

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

From these passages, we understand that God Himself is light, and Jesus is the light of the world. This raises another question: How can a person follow Jesus and not walk in darkness?

3. How Does a Person Follow Christ?

John 14:23 says:

“If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”

From this verse, we learn that following Christ is expressed through obedience to His word. When a person keeps the word of Jesus, Christ dwells within him. He abides in Christ, is born of God, and walks in the light.

4. Those Born of God Do Not Continue in Sin

1 John 3:9–10 states:

“No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.”

From this passage, we understand that when a person obeys the word of Jesus, Christ dwells in him, and he is born of God. The life of Christ within him transforms him so that he no longer lives in sin as a habitual way of life.

5. The Lord Is My Light

Psalms 27:1 says:

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”

Psalms 27:4 adds:

“One thing I have asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple.”

Psalms 27: 6 declares:

“Then my head will be exalted above my enemies all around me; I will offer sacrifices in His tent with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord.”

From these verses, we see that the deepest meaning of walking in the light is to dwell continually in God’s presence, to behold His beauty, and to worship Him with joy and thanksgiving. This is the highest and most beautiful life a person can experience.

Conclusion

God is light, and Jesus is the light. Only by loving Jesus and obeying His word can a person truly follow Him and walk in the light.

When a person lives in this way, Christ dwells within him. He is born of God and belongs to God. He receives the life of Christ and no longer lives in sin, but lives in the kingdom of God and in His righteousness. He follows Jesus, walks with Him, and will ultimately enter the kingdom of heaven and receive eternal life.
