You Shall Carefully Keep and Obey All the Commandments of the Lord

You Shall Carefully Keep and Obey All the Commandments of the Lord

“You shall carefully keep and obey all My commandments” is a key spiritual principle found throughout the Bible. It can be understood as an essential spiritual key to unlocking the message of Scripture. Whoever lives according to this principle will walk in God’s salvation, follow Jesus into the Kingdom of Heaven, and receive eternal life.

In the Bible, statements similar to “you shall carefully keep and obey all My commandments” appear approximately 120 times. This idea is expressed in various forms, such as “carefully keep and obey the statutes and ordinances of the Lord,” “keep My commandments,” “observe all My laws,” and “do everything I command you.”

From the statement, “You shall diligently keep and obey all My commandments,” it is evident that people must wholeheartedly obey the word of God, rather than merely engaging in continual discussion and analysis of it. Otherwise, how can anyone receive God’s salvation and promises?

1. Knowing the Lord by Keeping All His Statutes

Leviticus 19:37

“You shall therefore keep all My statutes and all My ordinances, and do them. I am the Lord.”

2. Keeping God’s Commandments and Being Sanctified

Leviticus 22:31–33

“You shall keep My commandments and do them. I am the Lord. You shall not profane My holy name, but I will be sanctified among the people of Israel. I am the Lord who sanctifies you, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am the Lord.”

3. Keeping His Commandments Brings Blessing in Going Out and Coming In

Deuteronomy 28:1–6

If you carefully obey the voice of the Lord your God and observe all His commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth.

All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the field. The fruit of your womb, the produce of your land, and the offspring of your livestock will all be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.

4. Disobedience Brings Curses in Going Out and Coming In

Deuteronomy 28:15–19

But if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God and do not carefully keep all His commandments and statutes, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you.

You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the field. Your basket and your kneading bowl will be cursed. The fruit of your womb and the produce of your land, and the offspring of your livestock will all be cursed. You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out.

5. Obedience Brings Fruitfulness to the Land

Leviticus 26:3–4

If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments and do them, then I will give you rain in its season, and the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall bear fruit.

6. Obedience Leads to Life

Leviticus 18:4–5

You shall follow My judgments and keep My statutes and walk in them. I am the Lord your God.

You shall keep My statutes and My judgments, which if a man does, he shall live by them.

7. Obedience Brings Dwelling in Safety

Leviticus 25:18

You shall observe My statutes and keep My judgments and do them, and you will dwell securely in the land.

8. Disobedience Leads to Devastation by Enemies

Leviticus 26:14–16

But if you do not obey Me and do not observe all these commandments, if you reject My statutes and despise My judgments and fail to carry out all My commandments, and break My covenant, then I will bring terror upon you. You will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies will eat it.

9. Disobedience Leads to Being Removed from the Land

Leviticus 20:22

You shall therefore keep all My statutes and all My judgments, so that the land where I am bringing you to dwell may not vomit you out.

In the New Testament: Obedience Means Keeping Jesus’ Words and Doing the Father’s Will

In the New Testament, “keeping all My commandments” is expressed as obeying the words of Jesus and doing the will of the Father.

John 14:23

Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”

Matthew 7:21

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who continually does the will of My Father who is in heaven.”

Conclusion

From these passages, it is clear that salvation is closely connected with obeying the word of Jesus and doing the will of the Father. Those who walk in obedience to God will enter into God’s salvation, follow Jesus into the Kingdom of Heaven, and receive eternal life. Amen.

在新約,「你要謹守遵行我一切的誡命」就變成了「遵耶穌的話語」與「遵行天父的旨意」,例如;

Walking with Christ Through the Storms — Fixing Our Eyes on Christ and Experiencing the Power of His Presence

Walking with Christ Through the Storms — Fixing Our Eyes on Christ and Experiencing the Power of His Presence

Life is like a journey across the sea. At times the waters are calm and peaceful; at other times they are overwhelmed by fierce winds and raging waves. When difficulties, trials, sickness, failures, or an uncertain future confront us, our hearts are often filled with anxiety and fear.

Yet the Bible repeatedly reveals a profound truth: true peace does not come from the absence of storms, but from the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ with us. Whether it was Peter walking on the water or the disciples trembling in the midst of a violent storm, Jesus used these events to teach an important lesson: the key to faith is not the stability of our circumstances, but whether we keep our eyes fixed on Him.

When we love the Lord Jesus and obey His Word, He dwells with us and walks beside us. Through His presence, we are able to stand firm amid life’s storms and experience His saving grace, sustaining power, and divine protection.

1. Jesus Walks on the Water

Matthew 14:25–33

Shortly before dawn, Jesus went out to His disciples, walking on the sea. When the disciples saw Him walking on the water, they were terrified and cried out, “It is a ghost!” But Jesus immediately said to them, “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”

Peter answered, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” Jesus replied, “Come.” Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strength of the wind, he became afraid and began to sink. Crying out, “Lord, save me!” he was immediately reached by Jesus, who took hold of him and said, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” When they climbed into the boat, the wind ceased. Then those in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”

This passage teaches us that when a believer walks toward Jesus, he must keep his eyes fixed on Christ. Once Peter shifted his attention from Jesus to the surrounding storm, fear replaced faith, and he began to sink. Likewise, when we focus on our circumstances rather than on Christ, we can lose the peace, joy, and assurance of salvation that are found in Him.

2. Jesus Calms the Storm

Mark 4:35–41

That evening Jesus said to His disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took Him along in the boat. Suddenly, a furious storm arose, and the waves broke over the boat so that it was nearly swamped. Yet Jesus was asleep on a cushion in the stern.

The disciples woke Him and cried out, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Jesus arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” Immediately the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Then He asked them, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” The disciples were filled with awe and said to one another, “Who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?”

This passage reminds us that when Jesus said, “Let us go over to the other side,” His words carried an assurance that they would reach their destination. Likewise, believers are called to follow Christ on their journey toward the eternal shore of God’s kingdom.

When Jesus is with us, why should we fear? The disciples became terrified because they focused on the storm and forgot that the Lord of heaven and earth was in the boat with them. If Christ is with us, no storm is beyond His control.

3. Abiding in the Presence of Jesus

John 14:21

"The one having My commands and keeping them is the one loving Me. The one loving Me will be loved by My Father, and I too will love him and reveal Myself to him.”

John 14:23

Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

From these two passages, we understand that whoever obeys Jesus’ words will have Jesus with them. And if a person is truly with Jesus, why should they fear any storm or crashing waves? If one keeps their eyes fixed on Jesus, how could they sink while walking toward Him?

Conclusion

Peter was able to walk on the water not because he possessed extraordinary ability, but because his eyes were fixed on the Lord Jesus. The moment he shifted his gaze toward the fierce wind and waves, fear replaced faith, and he began to sink. Likewise, the disciples panicked in the storm because they forgot that Jesus was in the boat with them. Yet the Lord not only reached out to save Peter, He also rebuked the wind and waves, restoring calm to the sea.

In life, we too will face many storms. But Jesus’ call to us has never changed:

“Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”

True faith does not deny the existence of storms; rather, it trusts in Jesus’ presence and authority in the midst of them.

When we hold fast to Jesus’ commands and walk in His word, He promises to dwell with us and walk with us. As long as Jesus is in the boat of our lives, and as long as our eyes remain fixed on Him, no storm can steal the peace He gives.

May we follow Jesus closely all our days, experiencing His presence, His grace, and His victorious power in every storm. Amen.
