All Things Work Together for Good
In these last days, how does the devil distort the Word of God to establish lies and prevent people from knowing the truth?
One of the most dangerous spiritual deceptions in these last days is the distortion of God’s Word through taking Scripture out of context. In this way, people may hear a message that sounds correct while missing the essential truth contained in the Scriptures.
Romans 8:28 does not simply declare, “All things work together for good.” Rather, it clearly states that “all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
If the essential condition—“those who love God”—is removed, people may expect God’s blessings while neglecting to love God, obey His Word, and live according to His will.
One of the devil’s deepest deceptions is to lead people to believe that merely hearing God’s Word or verbally acknowledging God automatically places them within the promises of God. Therefore, we must return to the complete truth of Scripture and examine ourselves: Do we truly love God? Do we truly know Him? Do we obey His Word and live according to His will?
Romans 8:28
“We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
From this Scripture, we see that all things work together for good to those who love God. Why, then, would the devil seek to distort this truth into the broader statement, “All things work together for good to everyone”?
1. The Devil Does Not Want People to Love God
John 14:23
Jesus answered, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”
From this Scripture, we see that Jesus connects loving Him with keeping His Word. If a person refuses to obey the words of Jesus, how can that person claim to love God? How can that person expect to experience the promise that all things work together for good to those who love Him?
The devil does not want people to love God. He seeks to separate people from obedience to God’s Word so that they will not experience the good that God works in the lives of those who love Him. Instead, he seeks to lead people into his traps of spiritual darkness, bondage, destruction, and ultimately eternal separation from God.
2. The Devil Does Not Want People to Know God
1 John 2:4
“Whoever says, ‘I know Him,’ but does not keep His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”
This Scripture teaches us that claiming to know God while refusing to keep His commandments is a contradiction. A genuine knowledge of God must be reflected in a life that responds to His truth.
The devil does not want people to obey God’s commandments because he does not want them to truly know God. Instead, he seeks to keep people trapped in deception, believing that they know God while their lives remain separated from obedience to His truth.
3. The Devil Wants People to Deceive Themselves
James 1:22
“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
This Scripture clearly warns us that hearing God’s Word without putting it into practice leads to self-deception.
The devil does not want people to become doers of God’s Word. He would rather have them remain hearers only—people who listen to Scripture, understand religious teachings, and perhaps even speak about God, but never allow His Word to transform the way they live.
When people hear the Word but refuse to obey it, they are in danger of deceiving themselves.
4. The Devil Does Not Want People to Do the Will of God
Matthew 7:21
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.”
From this Scripture, we see the seriousness of doing the will of God. Merely calling Jesus “Lord” is not a substitute for a life of obedience.
Those who truly love God seek continually to live according to His will. They desire to obey His Word, walk in His truth, and remain faithful to Him.
Therefore, we should not separate the promise of Romans 8:28 from a life of loving God and living according to His purpose. The believer is called not merely to seek God’s blessings, but to belong to God, follow Christ, and faithfully do the will of the Father.
5. The Devil Does Not Want People to See the Grace of God
John 14:21
Jesus said, “Whoever has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
This Scripture shows that the person who receives the commands of Jesus and continues to obey them demonstrates genuine love for Him. Jesus promises a profound relationship with those who love Him: “I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
When Christ reveals Himself in a person’s life, that person begins to recognize God’s presence, guidance, mercy, and grace more clearly.
Then, even through circumstances that may initially appear painful, confusing, or unfavorable, the believer can begin to recognize how God is working through all things according to His wisdom and purpose. In this way, we begin to see the grace of God revealed through the truth that “all things work together for good.”
6. The Devil Does Not Want People to Abide in the Grace of God
John 14:23
Jesus answered, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”
This Scripture reveals the beautiful relationship between loving Christ, keeping His Word, and enjoying fellowship with God.
Those who love Jesus desire to keep His Word, and Christ promises that the Father and the Son will make their home with them.
What greater blessing could there be than to live in fellowship with God?
To abide with God is to live continually under His presence, truth, guidance, mercy, and grace. Therefore, the Christian life should not merely seek temporary blessings from God; it should seek to abide in God Himself.
7. The Devil Wants People to Remain in Death Rather Than Receive Eternal Life
John 8:51
“Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word, he will never see death.”
The devil does not want people to obey the Word of God because he does not want them to receive the life that is found in Christ.
Jesus calls people out of darkness and into life. His words are not merely religious teachings to be heard; they are truth to be believed, received, obeyed, and lived.
The enemy seeks to separate people from God’s truth and lead them toward spiritual death. Jesus, however, calls people to Himself so that they may receive eternal life and remain in Him forever.
Conclusion
“All things work together for good to those who love God.” The true center of this promise is not merely “all things,” nor is it simply “good.” The center is God Himself—and whether we truly love Him.
Jesus clearly teaches that those who love Him will keep His Word, and those who truly know Him will live according to His truth. Therefore, we must not merely hear the Word of God while refusing to obey it in our daily lives. Neither should we seek only the grace and blessings of God while refusing to submit ourselves to the God who gives that grace.
The truly blessed way of life is to continue loving God, keeping the words of Jesus, doing the will of our heavenly Father, and abiding in Christ.
When we walk with the Lord in this way, even when we encounter suffering, trials, loss, disappointment, or circumstances that we cannot understand, we can still trust in the sovereignty, wisdom, and goodness of God. We may not immediately understand what He is doing, but we can trust that He remains Lord over all things and is accomplishing His purposes.
May we never be deceived by any voice that distorts the truth of God’s Word. Instead, may we hold firmly to the words of Christ throughout our lives, abide in His grace and truth, walk faithfully according to His will, and remain in Him unto eternal life.
